The top shell of the X7 power head keeps dust, feet and furniture away from the drive and wiring underneath, and this red moulding replaces that shell. Part 52106DRSE comes on its own, with no exhaust filter cover attached, so the one already fitted to your machine carries across to it.
Damage here is usually impact damage. The head is the part of the machine that goes under furniture, takes the weight when the vacuum is dragged over a threshold, and meets the wall at the end of every stroke. A shell that has cracked or lost a mounting tab will not close down tight, and once it stands loose the head develops a rattle it never had when new while grit finds its way onto the gears and belt below. Leaving it is a false economy, since the internals the cover exists to shield are considerably more expensive than the cover itself.
The supply arrangement is worth reading carefully before ordering. This is the main top cover only; the exhaust filter cover is a separate part number and is not included here, on the assumption that most people replacing a cracked shell still have a serviceable filter cover to transfer over. If yours is broken as well, order both together rather than discovering the gap mid-repair.
