Product details

Part 71379A is a 25 amp, 120 volt relay used on Powr-Flite Pulsar carpet extractors, and Powr-Flite lists it specifically for the PF85DX. A relay works as an electrically operated switch: a small control signal energizes a coil, and the coil pulls a set of contacts closed to send full power to something that draws far more current than the control circuit itself, such as a pump motor or the main vacuum motor.

Relay failure has a recognisable pattern: the control switch clicks but the load does not come on, or a function runs intermittently and worsens as the machine warms up. Those contacts erode a little with every cycle they switch, so on equipment running daily shifts, a relay wearing out over time is simply what normal service looks like rather than a sign of a defective part. A relay that has failed closed, where the load stays on even after the switch is released, is a safety issue and the machine should be unplugged until it is replaced.

With the machine unplugged, a relay can often be checked with a multimeter set to continuity: with the coil at rest the load contacts should read open, and a relay that clicks in service but still reads open across those contacts has failed internally even though it sounds like it is working. Confirm the relay you are removing matches this rating before ordering.
