This quick connect nipple is the small fitting that makes the hose connection on Oreck XLS465, XLS465Q, XLS700, and XLS700Q steam cleaners. It is a wear item rather than a permanent one, since every connect and disconnect works the seal a little further.
The fitting relies on that seal to make a clean connection each time the hose goes on and comes off. Once the seal wears or the nipple itself cracks, water drips right at the joint instead of passing through, which wastes water, leaves the area around the machine wet, and starves the steam head of the supply it needs to run properly.
