Thumb pressure at every single detachment is what eventually splits this cap. Part 1738GS is the gray black cover that sits over the release button on SEBO ET-C power heads, giving the button a proper bearing surface to be pressed against.
Without the cap in place the bare button is small, awkward and easily pushed off-centre, so it binds in its bore instead of releasing cleanly. The open recess left behind also collects hair, carpet fibre and grit, which packs down into the mechanism and makes a healthy button feel stiff and vague. Neither problem is dramatic on the day it starts, and that is exactly why so many ET-C heads end up with a missing cap and an owner convinced the whole neck has worn out. Fitting a new cap restores an even, square press and closes the recess again.
Colour is the only variable. SEBO moulds the cap in gray black and in light gray to suit the neck it is fitted to, so check the machine before ordering rather than working from a photograph.

Worth knowing before ordering: the cover is catalogued separately from the button and leaf spring beneath it, which are supplied together under 1737GS. Those two parts fail in that order of likelihood, so if the cap has gone but the button still returns crisply on its own, 1738GS is the whole repair and nothing deeper needs disturbing.
With the cap off, clear the recess and check that the button below still springs back unaided; if it does not, the button and leaf spring underneath are the parts that need renewing rather than the cover.
