Black dust cover latch for 4 Series Riccar uprights, part B224-2714, supplied in the upgraded design. The latch is the catch that holds the bag compartment cover shut, and it is a wear item by nature: it gets worked every single bag change and nothing else on the machine gets handled as often.
Once a latch no longer clicks home, the cover rides loose and the compartment seals stop doing their job, so replacing the catch is usually cheaper than chasing dust leaks elsewhere. Latches are model-specific — the Symmetry assembly is C224-0014 and the Simplicity, Riccar and Maytag M700, S20 and R20 assembly is D480-3200 — so order against the number in your parts diagram.
