B480-5200 is the foam pad that sits beneath the motor cover on Riccar and Simplicity's MV Series uprights, screening the air drawn through the motor compartment before it reaches the fan.
A pad like this fails by clogging rather than tearing. It packs down with fine gray dust a little more with every bag change, and the loss of airflow is gradual enough that most owners do not notice until the machine is clearly weaker than it used to run.
