Part C361-0800 is the latch and return spring that hold the dust cover shut on Riccar Sunburst and Simplicity Jill canister vacuums, supplied together as a single assembly rather than as two separate pieces.

Once the spring goes soft, the cover can no longer pull square against the bag compartment. That lets the door pop open partway through a cleaning session or rattle instead of staying latched, and the gap it leaves at the seam is enough to bleed suction and let dust escape before it ever reaches the bag.
