Royal's Broom Vac turns its brush roll with a Style 2 flat belt, and this is the replacement, part 1701260001. It is a flat belt driven by friction off the motor shaft, not a toothed geared belt.
Flat belts stretch. As the rubber ages it goes slack and glazed, the brush roll turns slower than the motor, and the machine stops lifting anything out of the pile. You push it over crumbs and pet hair and they stay put. A belt that has snapped outright leaves the brush roll dead still, sometimes with the smell of hot rubber behind it. Either way the vacuum sounds completely normal, which is why the belt gets overlooked.
Turn the machine over, lift the old belt off the motor shaft and the brush roll, and loop the new one on in its place.
