The front cover of a Sanyo SC27R canister is held shut by a latch, and part 6161038975 replaces it. It is the catch that clamps the cover down over the bag compartment and holds the seal while the machine runs.

Latches fail quietly. The plastic hook cracks, or the catch face wears round, and the cover stops closing with a definite click. From there it either pops open partway through a room or sits a millimetre proud - which is enough to break the seal. The motor works harder, suction drops, and dust escapes at the seam instead of going into the bag.

Fit the new latch to its mount and open and close the cover a few times before the machine goes back into service. It should catch cleanly and hold the cover down against normal handling.
