Product details

A small leaf spring is what holds a Sanyo upright's bottom plate pressed firmly to the machine's base, and part 6490001244 is the replacement, sized to work across every Sanyo bottom plate design rather than one specific model.

Spring steel like this loses tension gradually with age and use. Once it has fatigued enough, the bottom plate no longer latches with any real force, so it rattles during use and can pop open unexpectedly. That gap lets air sneak in around the nozzle at the exact spot the spring should be sealing, and the practical result is carpet pickup that has quietly gotten worse even though nothing else about the machine has changed.

A spring that is only partly fatigued can be hard to catch by eye alone, since it may still look perfectly straight while having lost much of its original tension. Flexing it gently by hand and comparing the resistance to a new spring is a more reliable check than a visual inspection on its own.

Because the fit spans every Sanyo bottom plate, there is no model number to hunt down before ordering, which is useful on an older machine where the rating label has faded or gone missing entirely. It is also easy to overlook during routine service, since a spring losing tension does not fail as obviously as one that has snapped outright.

  • Part: 6490001244, bottom plate tension spring
  • Fits: all Sanyo upright bottom plates, no model match needed
  • Symptom: a loose or rattling bottom plate, gradually weaker carpet pickup
  • Before ordering: compare the shape of your old spring if the plate on your machine looks unusual
