Product details
Ten C 3.9 x 22 screws is the sensible quantity for anyone who opens ET-C power heads more than once a year. Part 0174ER is the DIN 7981 self-tapper in that length, also used on the ELECTRONIC 370, and it is the same fastener listed singly as 0174.
Self-tapping screws are consumables in practice. A DIN 7981 screw is fully threaded and cuts its own path into the plastic boss, so each time one is driven back into a hole it has already formed, a little more of that thread goes with it. Eventually the screw spins without ever pulling the housing closed, and the temptation is to lean on it until something splits. Starting a rebuild with a fresh set means every fastener bites into clean material and can be tightened properly rather than tightened until it gives. Once the boss itself is chewed the screw is no longer the fault, and no new fastener will hold in it, so the fresh set is worth putting in before that point rather than after.
Length matters more than it looks. The 22 mm shank is chosen for the depth of boss it lands in, and a shorter 3.9 dropped in from the same tray engages barely any material — the head pulls down, the joint feels right, and it works loose the first time the brush roll is under load. Keeping a bag of the correct length on the shelf is the practical way to avoid that.
