Thread-forming screws cut their own path into a plastic boss, which is excellent once and merely adequate the fourth time the same hole is opened. Anyone who services these machines regularly runs short of M4 x 10s long before anything else fails, so a pack of ten covers several strip-downs without a reorder. The moment to use them is while a housing is already apart: swapping a full run of fixings takes minutes and removes the loose panel, the buzz at full suction and the cover that never quite closes flush.
Because the thread is rolled rather than cut, the boss keeps more of its strength than it would with an ordinary self-tapper, but each fresh pass still takes something out of it. That is the argument for fitting new screws to a housing that has been open more than once, and for driving them slowly enough to feel the head seat rather than relying on a clutch to decide.
