SEBO Vacuum Motor Seal for FELIX, DART and 370 Series

Every litre of air a vacuum moves has to travel through the motor fan rather than around it. The seal that enforces that on the FELIX, the DART and the 370 series is part 1047-2, fitted between the vacuum motor and its housing so that the only path open to the airflow is the one through the impeller.

Rubber hardens with heat and age, and this seal spends its life against a motor. Once it loses compression, air takes the easier route around the outside: suction at the floor head falls away even though the machine sounds exactly as it always did, the filters stop loading as quickly as they should because less dust is reaching them, and fine dust works into parts of the housing it was never meant to touch. A machine that has lost suction with no blockage anywhere in the hose, wand or bag path is the classic case for this part.

Wipe both seating faces clean before fitting and check that the seal sits evenly all the way round, since a pinched seal leaks as badly as a perished one and is harder to diagnose afterwards. Replace it whenever the motor is out for any other reason. A seal is a small part of a motor job and the one component certain to have aged alongside it.

What to look for on the old one: a rubber section that has gone hard and shiny rather than staying slightly tacky, flat spots where it has been compressed in one position for years, splits at a corner, or a seal that no longer springs back when pressed.
