Handle play on an ESSENTIAL upright almost always traces back to one joint at the base. Assembly 20823UL is the complete light gray and orange swivel neck for the SEBO ESSENTIAL G4 and SEBO ESSENTIAL G5, the pivot that lets the handle recline and lets the base track where you aim it.

SEBO places it at position 103 in the ESSENTIAL G4 G5 parts diagram. The neck also carries the machine's internal wiring, so a joint with excessive play slowly chafes the loom passing through it. That is a good reason to treat a sloppy neck as an electrical repair waiting to happen rather than a handling annoyance: by the time the machine starts cutting out when the handle is moved, the damage has already been done to a cable inside the pivot.

Supplying it as one finished assembly means the casting, the pivot and the wiring path all arrive together, so there is nothing to salvage from the old unit and nothing left half-renewed. Note exactly how the cables are dressed as the original comes away so the replacement is routed the same way — a loom pulled tight through a joint that moves will chafe again in the same place. Light gray with orange is the correct finish for these two machines, and it is the shade used on the ESSENTIAL G4 in light gray and dark gray, machine 90406AM, and on the ESSENTIAL G5, machine 90407AM.

The neck does not work alone. Supports 2824 on the right and 5479 on the left carry it, and bearings 2825 and 5717 sit inside it, so a machine that has been steering badly for a long time may need one or more of those at the same time.
