Hoover Thrust Washer - Inno...

$6.99

Product details

This is the thrust washer that rides inside a Hoover Innovation upright, cataloged as part 21328033. Seated on a rotating shaft, it takes the sideways load that shaft generates and holds the assembly in position so it turns in place instead of creeping along its own axis.

The same washer is also cross-referenced under the Oreck number PT357, which is worth knowing if you are checking a parts diagram that uses Oreck numbering rather than Hoover's.

A part this small is easy to set aside and forget once a repair is underway, but skipping it at reassembly has real consequences. Whatever it locates picks up play, begins to wobble, and rubs against the housing around it, and that makes itself heard as a grind or a tick, adds drag that makes the machine noticeably harder to push, and accelerates wear on parts that cost far more than the washer itself to replace. The washer typically sits sandwiched between a bearing and the shoulder of its shaft, so getting to it means pulling whatever assembly rides on that shaft, usually the brush roll or a drive pulley depending on where in the machine it sits. Keep track of orientation when you remove the old one, since some thrust washers are not symmetrical front to back.

  • Part: thrust washer, 21328033 (also cataloged as Oreck PT357)
  • Fits: Hoover Innovation upright
  • Function: locates a rotating shaft against sideways load
  • Symptom if worn or missing: grinding or ticking noise, added drag, accelerated wear on the parts around it

With the machine already open enough to get at it, put in a fresh washer instead of reinstalling the old one. At this point in a teardown, doing it right costs almost nothing extra.
