The circuit board on a Titan T1400 compact canister carries the machine's electrical control work, everything between the cord connection and the motor apart from the plain mechanical switch itself.
Faults on the board present differently than a worn switch or a tired motor. The motor surges or falters without you touching a control, a setting stops responding while everything else keeps working, the machine drops out partway through a room and comes back to life on its own shortly after, or it starts up fine cold and only turns erratic once it has been running a while. Once the cord, the switch, and the motor have all tested out fine on their own, the board is what remains.
This is part 17-8000-04. Before disconnecting anything, photograph every wire and connector on the old board, so reinstalling the new one is a matter of matching a picture rather than guessing from memory; a loose or reversed connector on the replacement can mimic the very fault you set out to fix.
Heat tends to age a board faster than anything else in the machine, since parts mounted close to a motor housing run hotter than the same components sitting in open air. Discolored solder joints or a scorched smell near a component is a more reliable sign of board failure than intermittent symptoms alone. A multimeter check on the incoming supply side, if you have one on hand, can also tell you whether power is reaching the board at all before you assume the fault runs deeper.
