The Tornado CVD 38/1 is a 15 in. single motor commercial upright supplied with its onboard tool set, part 91438. It is built for the same market as Tornado's other CVD machines: contract cleaning crews who need a straightforward upright that still carries True HEPA certified filtration and a Carpet and Rug Institute Gold rating.
A single motor design routes one motor to both the suction path and the brushroll drive, usually through a belt, which keeps the machine simpler to service than a build where the two functions run off separate motors. For carpet that is not heavily soiled, it covers the job at a lower cost and with fewer parts that can eventually need replacing.
The working numbers are 102 CFM at 81.5 in. of water lift, roughly 2,657 sq. ft. per hour of productivity, and 66 dB(A), quiet enough to meet the LEED sound threshold for cleaning while a building is occupied. Filtration is three stages, a CleanBreeze disposable bag into an intake filter into the HEPA cartridge, and the tools ride on the polypropylene body: telescopic wand, upholstery tool, crevice tool and dusting brush.
A belt-driven brush on a single motor upright is usually the first wear part to show its age. A brushroll that turns slower than it used to, or stops turning while suction still feels normal, points to a stretched or worn belt rather than a motor fault, and checking that first is worth doing before assuming anything larger is wrong.
