A sweep elbow makes the same 90-degree turn as a standard elbow but on a wider, more gradual radius, the same principle used on a sweep tee but without the branch connection. Part 765510W is sized for 2-inch central vacuum pipe, measured on the outside diameter, and finished in white.
The wider radius is the entire point of choosing a sweep elbow over a standard one: a sharp 90 forces debris to reverse direction almost instantly, while a sweep spreads that same direction change over a longer curve, so airflow, and whatever it is carrying, loses less speed getting through it. On runs with more than one direction change, using sweeps instead of standard elbows at each turn adds up to a noticeably stronger pull at the far inlet, especially on runs long enough that cumulative resistance actually matters.
Sweep fittings also take up more physical space than a standard elbow of the same angle, since the wider curve needs more room to complete the turn, which is worth checking against the available depth in a wall cavity or joist bay before specifying sweeps throughout a layout. Where space allows it, though, the airflow benefit is worth the extra planning, particularly on the bends nearest the power unit.
