The recovery tank on a Big Green seals against the machine on a rubber gasket, and 2037453 is that gasket. It fits the 86T3, 40M1, 10N2 and BG10.
The seal has to hold against suction as well as against water, which is why a tired one gets noticed twice over. Dirty water seeps from the tank joint and runs down the outside of the machine, and at the same time the vacuum path leaks air, so recovery falls off and the carpet is left wetter after every pass.
Gaskets go hard rather than fail dramatically. Take the old one off and try to fold it: if it has set permanently in the shape of its groove, or feels stiff rather than springy, it stopped sealing some time ago. Wipe the groove out before the new one goes in.
