The pre-motor filter is your Bissell Lift Off Pet's last line of defense — it sits between the dirt bin and the motor, trapping the fine dust that would otherwise coat the motor windings. Once it loads up with pet hair and dander, airflow drops and suction fades noticeably. Washing helps for a while, but the foam and media break down over time, and a fresh filter is the only real cure. Especially worth replacing if the vacuum has started to smell musty when running.
