Part 285041 provides exactly that on the Sanitaire 886 and 888 lines of uprights, a clear 31 inch strip that takes contact with baseboards, table legs, and every doorway the machine passes through.
Yellowing shows up in the clear strip well before an actual crack does, which makes color a useful early warning on machines that get looked over regularly on a service route. Press a thumb into the strip to feel how quickly it springs back, since a piece that has gone stiff and lost its give is closer to failing than it looks. When the strip finally does split or work loose from its channel, every impact that follows lands straight on the plastic housing instead, and repairing that housing costs considerably more than swapping a bumper strip ever would.
