Product details
Part 17376 is a small rubber belt fitted inside Sanitaire's power nozzle, connecting the nozzle's own motor to the roller that sweeps the carpet.
Rubber ages under heat, and this belt sees plenty of it working alongside a motor that runs whenever the nozzle does. As it stretches, the roller slows down gradually rather than stopping outright, so a wide strip of carpet keeps looking under-cleaned pass after pass before anyone suspects a part has failed. A belt that has actually snapped is easier to spot, since the roller stops dead while everything else about the nozzle keeps running, sometimes with a scorched-rubber smell.
Since the nozzle motor draws power and runs regardless of the belt's condition, the canister's own suction can mask a slipping belt for a while on carpet, picking up enough loose dirt on its own to hide the missing agitation until it is checked.
