Eureka SC679-Series Switch ...

Product details
The button you press on Sanitaire's metal commercial uprights is a separate cover over the switch body beneath it, and part 146601 is the current replacement cover built for the 679 family. It covers the Eureka and Sanitaire SC679G, SC679H and SC679J, and also fits the SC684F, SC688, SC689A, SC695A and the 1934A.
Only the cover is being replaced here, not the switch itself. Order it once the button has cracked, come off entirely, or worn to where it sticks and no longer springs back up. A machine that keeps running after you press off, or that needs a knuckle pressed into just the right spot to start, is describing this exact failure.
Disconnect the machine from power before opening the switch area. If a good button is installed and the vacuum still switches unreliably, look at the switch body itself rather than the cover.
A new button that will not sit flush is more often a sign that whatever held the old one in place has broken away behind it than a sign of the wrong part, so look closely at how the original was retained before pressing anything into position. Compare the old and new covers side by side first, since this is the new-style button and the earlier one for the family is not the same part.
