Replacement vacuum motor for the Hoover CH34006 commercial backpack, ordered as part 440009083. It is the motor that sits in the barrel on your back and does all the work.
Backpack motors fail in a fairly predictable way. Suction goes soft first, then the machine gets louder, with a whine or a rattle that was not there last month, and in the worst cases there is a hot, sharp smell while it runs. Brushes and bearings wear on a duty cycle measured in shift-hours, so a machine that vacuums forty hours a week reaches that point years before a household vacuum would.
