The fork pin is the pivot that holds the handle fork to the nozzle on a Kirby upright. This genuine Kirby part, 137879, fits the 516, 517, 518, 519, 560, 561 and 562, the Dual Sanitronic 50 and 80, and the Tradition.
It is a small piece of steel doing a lot of work. As the pin wears it takes on a flat where the fork bears, and the joint loosens: the handle wobbles side to side, steering goes vague, and the pivot clicks each time you change direction. That play then accelerates wear in the bushing and in the fork itself.
A fresh pin tightens the joint immediately. It drives out and back in with basic tools, and it is worth fitting a new fork bushing at the same time, since the two wear as a pair and the pivot is already apart.
