SEBO Pile Adjustment Spring...

Product details
Shown at position 129 in SEBO's SOFTCASE CE12 parts diagram, part 4019 is the small spring sitting behind the pile height adjustment. Its job is to load the mechanism so that whichever setting you dial in is the setting the nozzle actually keeps, pass after pass, rather than a suggestion the head drifts away from as soon as it meets resistance.
When the tension fades, the head starts wandering off its setting between passes. On deep pile it rides too high and grooms the surface without reaching into the carpet; on short carpet or a rug it drops too low, drags, and the machine becomes heavy to push. Neither symptom looks like a spring problem, which is why a weak one here is so often misdiagnosed as a worn brush roller or a tired belt. The clue is inconsistency: the machine behaves differently on the same carpet from one week to the next, and the adjustment feels vague rather than positive. It is an inexpensive part to rule out before anything larger is replaced.
