Moulded in gray black to suit the white-bodied AUTOMATIC X2, the power head cover ordered as 5492SE forms the upper shell of the floor head. It closes over the gear drive, the internal loom and the brush roller chamber, and it is the surface that meets every baseboard, stair nosing and chair leg the machine is steered into.

Covers are bought for damage rather than for age. A tab broken away at a screw boss, a shattered corner, or a split travelling back from the leading edge all leave the head open to the room. Once the enclosure stops being closed, grit works its way down into the gearing and the head no longer sits flat enough to hold an even contact with the pile. A replacement locates on the original bosses and screw centres, so nothing has to be drilled, packed or trimmed to make it sit correctly.
