Measure the cable you remove and fit the matching one rather than stretching a short cable to reach. Unplug the vacuum before opening the housing, seat each end fully into its header until the latch closes, and avoid creasing the new ribbon anywhere along its run, because a sharp fold is exactly what finished the old one.
