Set the brush height on a SEBO X series upright and the adjuster axle turns against a small sacrificial plate. That plate is part 5155GS, moulded in gray black, and it is what lets the axle rotate cleanly instead of cutting into the housing around it. One number covers the whole run of machines that use this adjustment, from the AUTOMATIC X1 through to the X8 and the CE12 Softcase.
As the plate wears thin the height setting begins to creep, so a brush set low for hard floors drops onto a rug, or a setting chosen for carpet rides too high to reach the fibres. The feel at the control goes first: what should be a positive, repeatable movement turns vague or gritty, and the setting no longer stays where it was put. A new plate restores the bearing face the axle was designed to run against, which is a far smaller job than dealing with a housing that has been worn oval. Grit is what does the damage: it works into the joint, and from then on the axle laps the plate a little further every time the height is changed.
