Inside a SEBO X Series upright, a flat ribbon carries the control and signal lines to the printed circuit board, and part 5205 is that ribbon supplied as a service item. It is the physical link that lets the machine's electronics talk to the components they switch and monitor.

Ribbon conductors fatigue where they flex, and the contacts at either end corrode or work loose in their connector. What that produces is one of the more annoying classes of fault, because it is almost never constant. A function responds only sometimes. An indicator comes and goes. The machine behaves one way, gets jostled or lifted by the handle, and behaves differently afterwards. Faults that move around when the body is handled point at a connection rather than at a component, and a ribbon is the first thing worth looking at before anything expensive is condemned.

A factory ribbon restores a clean, repeatable connection because the conductor count, the length and the connector all match what the board expects. That specificity is the point of ordering the correct part: a substitute that is close but not right will seat badly in the connector, put strain on the board and fail again within months. Fitting one is internal work, so plan on opening the machine to reach the board, and note the orientation of the connector before the old ribbon is pulled.
