SEBO built the X series so that the roller comes out by hand, without a screwdriver and without splitting the nozzle open. That whole arrangement rests on this release holding tension and returning cleanly. When it cracks at the pivot or loses its spring action, one of two things follows. Either the roller fights you every time it comes out, so maintenance quietly gets skipped and the brush ends up bound with hair and thread, or the roller goes back in and never quite locks, which lets it move in its seat while the machine runs and works away at the bearing blocks either side. Neither is worth living with on an otherwise sound nozzle.

Diagnosis is straightforward. With the machine unplugged, work the release and watch whether it returns fully under its own spring; a latch that has to be helped back, or that has visible cracking around the pivot, has already failed even if it still just about holds. The white finish here is the identifying detail, matched to the housings SEBO used on these machines, so check it against your own nozzle rather than assuming every X series release is the same part.
