The unit keeps track of the brush roll in use and passes on what it reads. One that is failing rarely stops an AUTOMATIC X2 outright. Instead the machine starts behaving strangely, because every decision it makes rests on information that is no longer true. Since the pulley and the screws arrive in the box, nothing further has to be sourced once the old assembly comes out. Take the chance to inspect what drives it: on the AUTOMATIC X2 the toothed belt from the motor is 5379, the belt carrying drive onward to the bearing block is 5110, and the pulleys are listed as 5117/1. A belt whose teeth have worn round will make short work of a new pulley, so change the pair together where the belt is at all suspect. Fitting the assembly is a matter of seating it, engaging the belt and running the screws home, with no adjustment to set afterwards.
