Part 8108-01 is the dirt cone gasket for the Titan TCS-5525 and TCS-8575 canisters, the seal that sits between the dirt cone and its mating surface inside the machine. Canister vacuums depend on a sealed airflow path from the inlet all the way to the motor, and the dirt cone joint is one of the places that seal is most likely to fail first, since it gets opened every time the unit is emptied.
A hardened or compressed gasket lets air bypass the dirt cone instead of pulling through it, which shows up as a machine that has lost noticeable suction even though the bag or filter is clean and the hose has no visible leaks. Rubber and foam gaskets harden with age and heat cycling, and once compressed they no longer spring back to fill the gap the way a fresh one does.
Fitted specifically to the TCS-5525 and TCS-8575; reseat the dirt cone carefully once the new gasket is in place, since a gasket seated crooked will leak just as much as an old one.
Clean the mating surface of any old, hardened gasket material before fitting the replacement. A fresh gasket seated over old residue will not compress evenly and can leak in the same spot the old gasket failed.
