Part HS502118 joins a 1 1/4 inch Hide-A-Hose hose end to a standard tool fitting, so ordinary vacuum attachments can be used on a hose that would otherwise only take the manufacturer's own tools. It fits Hide-A-Hose central vacuum hoses that terminate in a 1 1/4 inch cuff, and it is molded to that one diameter rather than sized to fit several.
These adapters go missing more often than they wear out. Left attached to whatever tool was put down last, one can vanish into a closet or a garage shelf long before the plastic itself gives out. When damage does happen, it is almost always a split along the sleeve, the result of a tool being twisted off at an angle instead of pulled straight.
