Product details

This ElectraValve II from Canplas Hayden, finished in almond and cataloged as 775850A, is a direct-connect inlet built around the 0657 body for central vacuum systems. Wiring runs straight to the power head through the valve itself, so plugging in a hose never requires a separate extension cord from a nearby outlet.

As a finish, almond pairs with cream and off-white trim rather than reading as stark white, which matters on a fitting mounted at knee height in a room where it stays in plain view. Match it to the other inlets already installed in the house rather than to the one room it is going into, since a mixed set of colors across one system draws the eye far more than a single inlet that sits slightly off against a wall.

One check is worth making before ordering. Pull the existing inlet away from the wall and look at both the opening it sits in and the wiring already run to it, because an electrified inlet has to match both, and an older installation will not always take a current valve without rework. Photograph the back of the old valve before anything is disconnected, since that picture answers most of the questions that come up partway through the swap.

Direct-connect inlets see more electrical wear than a plain suction inlet, since the contacts inside are what actually switch power to the head every time a hose goes in. A power nozzle that refuses to start at one inlet but works once the hose moves to another usually traces back to pitted contacts inside that valve rather than the hose or head, and swapping the inlet is the more dependable fix over trying to clean contacts that have already begun to corrode.
