Kirby part 145969S is the thick washer used in the belt lifter assembly on the 1CR and 1CB. Its whole purpose is spacing: it sets the gap between the moving parts of the lifter so the mechanism swings without side play.

Leave it out during a reassembly, or substitute one of the wrong thickness, and the lifter feels loose and gritty. Parts that should slide past each other start rubbing instead, and the belt-change action goes from a clean lift to something that binds halfway. It is a common casualty of a rushed rebuild, since the washer is easy to lose on a bench.

Order by thickness, not just by name, and keep a couple with your spare belts if you service these machines regularly. Confirm your Kirby is a 1CR or 1CB first.
