This is a black replacement nozzle assembly for Riccar's 4000-series and R-series uprights built without a clutch, sold as part number D017-1314. As the forward shell of the cleaning head, the nozzle is what rides against the carpet, cradles the brushroll chamber, and directs whatever the brush kicks up into the airway.

Replacement becomes necessary after an impact, or once years of dragging across carpet edges and door thresholds have worn the front lip down thin. A worn lip lets loose debris skid past the intake instead of being pulled in, so pickup on bare floors suffers even before carpet performance drops off.
