Thread guard for Riccar and Simplicity brushroll assemblies, listed under part number B490-3305. A thread guard is the low rib running alongside the agitator that keeps long hair, carpet thread and pet fur from migrating to the ends of the roll, where it winds into the bearing area and drags the brush to a stop.
Hair that reaches a bearing is what turns a five minute cleanout into a stripped brushroll, so the guard is worth a look any time the base plate is off. Cut away whatever is already wrapped before fitting the replacement.
