When a backpack vacuum trips out mid-shift and will not come back until it has cooled, the thermal reset is the part doing the tripping. This is the replacement reset for Carpet Pro backpack machines, part B352-6500, listed for the Carpet Pro 9715.
A reset that has aged badly stops holding. It will pop with a warm motor and a clear airway, or it will refuse to latch at all, so the vacuum goes dead and stays dead with the switch on. Operators tend to describe it as the machine cutting out for no reason and then working again twenty minutes later.
It is a small, inexpensive electrical component, which makes it a sensible first thing to change on a commercial backpack that has started dropping out rather than pulling the machine from the rotation. Unplug the vacuum before opening the housing.
