Each valve closes automatically under spring tension the instant the hose disconnects, sealing the port against dust and drafts, and its internal contacts complete the low-voltage circuit that starts the power unit the moment a hose end goes back in. The rounded door profile sits flush against the wall and keeps opening smoothly even after repeated paint touch-ups over the years.

Having the wire and cement bundled with the valves means the job does not stall partway through for a hardware store run.
