Every time an access panel on a Clean Max ZM800 or Titan T500 cord free upright needs to open, a finger presses this small latch button first. It is the trigger for the catch, not the catch itself, and it takes a push on every service visit or routine cleanout, sometimes several times in a single cleaning session.
The button's return spring and the small plastic tab that actually trips the catch wear from repeated pressing. Once that tab rounds off or snaps, the button either sticks partway in or stops moving the catch at all, and the panel ends up pried open instead of released. Prying a stuck catch is what usually cracks the surrounding housing, turning a cheap part into a bigger repair.
Because the button sees more use per week than most other plastic parts on the machine, replacing it at the first sign of sticking, before it stops working outright, is generally the cheaper path. Part B223-4197 takes the place of the original button, restoring a positive click every time the catch releases and holds.
