Kirby cord hooks are sprung, and this two-pack of springs, part 1706A, replaces them on the Kirby 513 and the Dual Sanitronic D80. Each spring supplies the tension that pulls the hook closed against the wrapped cord.

These springs are the reason a Kirby holds its cord instead of letting it unspool on the way to the closet. After decades of the hook being swung open and shut, the coil takes a set, loses tension or snaps, and the cord starts sliding off on its own. On a machine this age it is usually both hooks rather than one, which is why they come in pairs.

Replacing them is a small job with the hook off the fork. Fit both while the machine is apart, or keep the second spring on the shelf for the next repair.
