Part EK212 is the 14-1/2 inch brush roll built for the Eureka 4800 Smart Vacuum, sized specifically to that model's nozzle width rather than a shared platform length.
On an upright like this, the brush roll is what actually works dirt out of the pile ahead of the suction, and it wears the way most bristled rollers do: the tufts flatten and shorten with use until they stop reaching down into carpet fiber. A machine that used to leave visible clean lines starts skimming the surface, and pet hair and debris that used to get lifted just get pushed around instead.
Hair and thread wrapped around the shaft cause the same symptom while the bristles underneath are still serviceable, so strip the old roll of debris before judging it worn. Once the bristle rows are visibly flattened, bent, or uneven along their length, the roll needs replacing rather than cleaning, and no amount of trimming loose fibers will bring the bristle spring back.
