Product details
A power nozzle that keeps dropping out mid-pass, even though the vacuum itself starts fine, usually has a problem at the hose fitting rather than in the nozzle's own motor. Part KT400DCINST is the black plug Plastiflex builds for the machine end of its four-wire hoses, combining the pressure seal at the wall inlet with the small set of electrical pins a low-voltage system needs to run a powered head.
A two-wire hose only switches the vacuum motor on and off, while a four-wire hose adds the extra pins a power nozzle draws from as it runs. The two configurations look similar enough at a glance to grab the wrong one, so counting the pins on the plug coming out is worth doing before ordering, since a plug that seats and seals in the inlet just fine can still leave a power nozzle without any of the current it needs.
- Part: KT400DCINST, black four-wire direct connect plug
- Fits: Plastiflex direct connect central vacuum hoses built with the four-wire configuration
- Replace when: the housing has cracked, a pin shows burn or corrosion marks, or the fitting has stopped locking into the inlet
Yanking a hose free of the wall instead of releasing the catch is the fastest way to loosen these connections from the inside, often with no mark left on the outer shell to give it away, so a plug that has stopped locking securely into the inlet deserves replacing on that symptom alone. Swapping the plug rather than the entire hose is the far cheaper repair whenever the hose body itself is still sound.
