Eureka Dirt Cup Kit Assembl...

Product details
A bagless dirt cup does more structural work than its size suggests. On the Sanitaire and Eureka SC887, a 12 inch upright, the cup has to hold suction at its seal, trap fine debris while the motor runs at speed, and survive being pulled off, emptied and reseated hundreds of times over its service life. Kit 601221 is the complete assembly for this platform, supplied whole rather than piece by piece.
Cracks tend to start in two predictable spots: the latch tab, which takes a snapping load on every removal, and the seal groove, which deforms gradually from repeated flexing rather than failing all at once. Once either area fails, dust leaks at the joint under suction instead of staying contained inside the cup, and pickup drops even though the motor and filter are otherwise in good working order.
Because the leak is often small at first, a gradual drop in pickup that otherwise looks like a clogged filter or a worn belt is worth checking against the dirt cup seal before those other, more commonly suspected parts get replaced unnecessarily. The same kit also fits the Eureka 2230, which shares this dirt cup design with the SC887.
Emptying the cup after every use rather than letting it fill completely reduces the strain on the latch and keeps the seal surface from being worked while under load, which extends the life of both wear points.
