Product details
This bottom half of the Kirby Heritage I's disposable bag adaptor carries part number 190181S. Paired with its matching top piece, the two halves clamp the paper bag collar between them so the machine's full airflow gets routed through the bag itself rather than slipping past it at the joint.
Because this piece gets picked up and handled at every single bag change, it tends to break outright rather than wear down gradually the way a rubber seal would. A distorted or cracked bottom half cannot grip the collar with even pressure all the way around, and once that grip goes uneven, dust slips past the bag and builds up as a grey coating inside a compartment that should otherwise stay clean between changes.
Before assuming a fresh bag will solve weak suction, look closely at where this piece meets the collar for hairline cracks. They hide easily in normal light and get mistaken for a bad bag more often than not, particularly on a Heritage that has racked up years of service and dozens of bag swaps.
Grip both halves of the adaptor by their molded edges, not by the collar itself, whenever you change a bag, since flexing the plastic right at the collar is how most of these cracks start in the first place. A spare is worth keeping on a machine in regular use, since this piece tends to fail suddenly rather than showing gradual warning signs beforehand.
