When a Dyson DC07 or DC14 goes quiet without warning, or starts grinding or squealing loudly before it dies, the motor is the usual suspect over the belt, filter or hose. This is a complete replacement motor for the DC07 and DC14 bagless upright, built to install in place of the original unit rather than as a rebuild kit.
Dyson used more than one motor supplier across the life of these models, and a portion of DC07 and DC14 units shipped with a Panasonic-made motor instead of the standard unit. This replacement is not built to fit that Panasonic variant, so confirm which motor is currently in the machine before ordering, since the two styles are not interchangeable and forcing the wrong one in risks damaging the mounting points. The check is straightforward: Panasonic-built units carry the words Panasonic only embossed in the rubber fancase seal around the motor, and that variant takes the Panasonic-style motor, Dyson part 905456-03, instead of this one.
A motor swap on these models is a bigger job than a switch or a wheel: it involves opening the motor bucket, disconnecting the wiring, and resealing the airway correctly so the machine does not lose suction at the joints once it goes back together. Anyone comfortable with basic mechanical disassembly can manage it, but budget more time than a small parts swap would take.
