Two jobs happen at once under an Electrolux or Eureka EL8605A upright, and both depend on the bottom plate: maintaining the air seal around the nozzle opening and, as on most uprights of this construction, keeping the brush roll sitting at a consistent height above the floor.
When the plate cracks, warps, or simply wears thin at its edges, that dual job falls apart. Suction bleeds off at the seams instead of concentrating through the nozzle opening, and debris that the machine should be capturing can slip back out from underneath rather than making it into the bag. A drop in cleaning performance that appears suddenly, with a fresh bag already installed and a filter that was just cleaned, is a strong signal to check the plate before looking anywhere else in the airflow path.
A plate warped badly enough to change how the brush roll sits can leave the brush riding too high on one side, which shows up as uneven pile lift across the width of a single pass and is often mistaken for a dull or worn brush roll rather than a plate that has stopped sitting flat underneath it.
