Product details

Strip the canopy off a PU3900C power unit and this is what is underneath: the 14 inch metal cylinder that the motor sits inside, the lid seals against, and the filter and exhaust hardware mount to. Everything else on the unit depends on this shell holding its shape and its seal.

Fits the Electrolux PU3900C power unit. Vacuum pressure inside a central vac system depends on an airtight path from the inlet all the way to the motor, and the upper body is one of the few places along that path where the seal is metal-to-gasket rather than pipe joint. A dent that knocks the rim out of round, a crack in the shell, or corrosion at a bolt point breaks that seal even with a perfectly good motor and lid.

  • Fits: Electrolux PU3900C power unit
  • Size: 14 inch upper cylinder
  • Function: Structural shell for the motor, lid seal, and exhaust mount
  • Replace when: Rim distortion, cracking, or corrosion at mounting points

When reinstalling the lid and exhaust hardware onto a new upper body, snug the fasteners evenly in a criss-cross pattern rather than fully tightening one side first. An uneven clamp-up can pull the rim slightly out of round even on a brand-new shell, which defeats the purpose of replacing a warped one in the first place.

If you are rebuilding a PU3900C from a damaged shell, start with the body before ordering a new lid or canopy, since a warped cylinder will keep a brand-new lid from sealing no matter how good the gasket is. Sequencing the rebuild this way also avoids paying twice for a lid or canopy that has to be readjusted once the underlying shell is finally square. Listed under SKU 125495.
