A wheel on a Sanitaire, Eureka, or Electrolux-Eureka S5000 or SC5500 series upright stays in place because of a small bracket clamping its axle into the frame, and this is that clamp, part 532014.
It is an unglamorous piece of hardware, but it takes load every time the machine rolls, and hardware under repeated load is exactly where small failures like to start. Once the clamp loosens from vibration over time or the material around its mounting points cracks, the axle gets some freedom to shift, and a wheel that used to track dead straight starts to develop side-to-side play, a visible wobble, or a lean under load. Left long enough, a wheel can work its way loose enough to separate from the machine entirely during use, which usually happens at the worst possible moment mid-clean rather than while the machine is sitting idle.
